Daiwik experience @ Rameshwaram
Showered in 22 thirtham @ Rameshwaram temple last sunday (12th feb), and then had a memorable trip to Dhanushkodi in the afternoon.
Boarded TN state transport Bus No.1 from Rameshwaram to Mugunthraya Chatram (20kms) (Fare 10 per head).
And from there, hired a Tempo to Dhanuskodi (10kms) to travel by sand (Fare 80 per head for up & down).
The mini-tempo ride along with 20 others was an adventerous joy ride on sand road & back waters to reach upto the Land's end, 27 kms south of Rameshwaram... Srilanka was just another 40 kms by sea.
Had to return bare foot as I lost both my footware while on the tempo ride
After the 1964 cyclone, Dhanuskodi is now uninhabited and a restricted place after 6pm.
Once this sprawling town had hotels, textile shops and dharmashalas catering to pilgrims and travellers.
Ruins of a two storied Library building
That is Kothandarama Temple view from Dhanushkodi road.
Sea is so calm in one side and the other side is full of waves.. Locals call the calm beach as Male and the roaring one Female.
Place where both of them joined...Dhanushkodi beach is so shallow that there were people who walked coolly on sea for as far as about 200m...
Visited this famous Church @ Danushkodi on the return trip...The sand was so hot that my foot were burning inside the church premises...The Church walls were built full of Corals!!Traced the railway track filled now with sand... In 1964 cyclone, a train full of passengers had lost their lives; and after that the Indian railways had abandoned this track...
The old railway station which had got ruined is today a mini-shopping place.Had a road side shopping of Kanavathod & local antique.
After reaching back Rameshwaram, shopped a new pair of footware..
It was a tiresome day, but trully memorable!!!
