Teeny-Tiny

ONCE upon a time there was a teeny-tiny woman who lived in a teeny-tiny house in a teeny-tiny village. Now, one day this teeny-tiny woman put on her teeny-tiny bonnet, and went out of her teeny-tiny house to take a teeny-tiny walk. And when this teeny-tiny woman had gone a teeny-tiny way, she came to a teeny-tiny gate; so the teeny-tiny woman opened the teeny-tiny gate, and went into a teeny-tiny churchyard. And when this teeny-tiny woman had got into the teeny-tiny churchyard, she saw a teeny-tiny bone on a teeny-tiny grave, and the teeny-tiny woman said to her teeny-tiny self, 'This teeny-tiny bone will make me some teeny-tiny soup for my teeny-tiny supper.' So the teeny-tiny woman put the teeny-tiny bone into her teeny-tiny pocket, and went home to her teeny-tiny house.

Now, when the teeny-tiny woman got home to her teeny-tiny house, she was a teeny-tiny bit tired; so she went up her teeny-tiny stairs to her teeny-tiny bed, and put the teeny-tiny bone into a teeny-tiny cupboard. And when this teeny-tiny woman had been to sleep a teeny-tiny time, she was awakened by a teeny-tiny voice from the teeny-tiny cupboard, which said:

'Give me my bone!'

And this teeny-tiny woman was a teeny-tiny frightened, so she hid her teeny-tiny head under the teeny-tiny clothes and went to sleep again. And when she had been to sleep again a teeny-tiny time, the teeny-tiny voice again cried out from the teeny-tiny cupboard a teeny-tiny louder,

'Give me my bone!'

This made the teeny-tiny woman a teeny-tiny more frightened, so she hid her teeny-tiny head a teeny-tiny further under the teeny-tiny clothes. And when the teeny-tiny woman had been to sleep again a teeny-tiny time, the teeny-tiny voice from the teeny-tiny cupboard said again a teeny-tiny louder,

Manjadikkuru - The Lucky Red Seed

Known as Circassian seeds otherwise, are produced by a tropical Asian tree called the red sandalwood (Adenanthera pavonina), a beautiful tree of the Legume Family (Fabaceae) with pinnately compound leaves and dense racemes of fragrant, creamy-yellow blossoms. It is also called the "bead tree," "necklace tree," and "peacock flower-fence.

The generic name Adenanthera comes from the Greek aden (a gland) and anthera (anther), referring to minute glands on the anthers. The slender, flattened pods become contorted and twisted as they split open at maturity, and each pod releases up to a dozen brilliant red, lens-shaped, extremely hard seeds. The hard, reddish wood of this tree is used for cabinet-making. It is often used in place of true sandalwood (Santalum album, Santalaceae), except it gradually becomes purplish-red due to light exposure. For this reason, in many areas of tropical Asia it is known as "red sandalwood." The trees are also used extensively as shade trees ("nurse trees") in coffee, clove and rubber plantations of Kerala.

In China, it is known as 'love beads' grown from 'bead tree'...

In the Caribbean islands, it is known as 'jumbie beads' grown from 'gulgangi tree'...

In other places, it is known by various names like wishing bean, sea heart, coral wood, crab's eyes, deer's eye... etc.

There is mythical story on this manjadikkuru from ancient China about a young wife. She missed her husband who went out for battles. She often cried under the tree in front of her gate; her tears dried up, and blood came out of her eyes. The blood dyed the roots of the tree into red; afterwards, small and red beans began to grow on the tree, and the beans were bead tree.

The original kum-kum or sindoor which Indian women wear in their forehead is made from this bead.

What has inspired me in doing a research on manjadikkuru is for a beautiful film by the same name directed by Anjali Menon (Kerala Cafe fame).

One of her interview was really inspiring & nostalgic. I have not seen both her films (Manjadikkuru & Kerala Cafe) yet, but would definetly like to watch soon.

9. Industrial Leadership
Dean of the institute in 3 idiots is showing very typical leadership. He has his own principles, values and ideology, and he leads the whole institute accordingly. This is an example of current institutional leadership. In the present scenario, most of the institutes are fixed in a block or Squarish thinking.

11. Importance Of One Word In Communication
If communication dies, everything dies. Each word has impact and value in communication. One word if used wrongly or emphasized wrongly or paused at a wrong place in communication what effect it creates and how is it affected is demonstrated very well in this movie.

Learn to communicate well. Each word has its own importance. Proper pauses and stress on certain words will convey the exact meaning, or may even change the entire meaning. Like in the movie, Chatur's speech was modified with few words but the entire speech was changed.

12 Help others and foster respect.

Helping others helps you to grow mentally and easily associates you. A lasting relationship is created by helping others. In the movie, Aamir helps Joshi and Madhavan in choosing right careers for them and follow their dreams. This creates an everlasting bond between friends, not only friends but with anyone whom we help. You grow as a person and never have to look back in life.

13. Mediocrity Is Penalized

Middle class family or average talent or average institute is going to suffer and has to pay maximum price in the life if they do not upgrade their living standards. To be born poor or as an average person is not a crime but to die as an average person with middle class talent is miserable and if you are unable to optimize your potentiality and die with unused potentiality then that is your shameful truth. One should not die as a mediocre. He/she has to bring out genius inside him/her and has to use his/her potentiality to the optimum level.

Simple rules to be happy

Here are a few simple, yet effective ways to a happy life

1. Tell the truth: To tell the truth is the mark of a person with character. In today’s professional warfare, twisting the truth has become a norm. Trust is lacking in personal and professional relationships. People are not honest about their feelings, their agendas and their intentions, for the fear of being rejected or judged. Being rejected and judged on the truth is far better than living a lie. Aspire to be honest no matter what the consequences. You will be happier and abundant in all that counts.

2. Appreciate goodness: Some of us rank first in the queue of criticism and in the same breath; we are the last to appreciate. Remember this that whatever you appreciate will grow in your experience. When you compliment and appreciate someone, they will always return your gesture. Appreciation like any other outflow of emotion and it has a boomerang effect; it comes back to you multiplied. Give genuine appreciation and you will be richly rewarded with more.

3. Don’t do to others that you would not have others do to you: Do not put others down on one pretext or another. The person who puts others down is far unhappier than the person belittled. Measure every action by the rule, “Would I have this done to me?” If your answer is no, don’t do it. Always treat people with the grace and dignity they deserve even if your opinion about them is otherwise. When you treat people a certain way, indirectly you are sending out the message of how you should be treated. Treat people with respect, no matter what your opinion.

4. Take care of yourself: Some people look after their cars better than they look after their own bodies. I sincerely believe that someone who is not interested in looking after himself is a disaster waiting to happen. The ultimate disrespect one can bear upon oneself is not to consider oneself worthy enough of being treated well. You can’t complain when others don’t treat you well, if you can’t do that for yourself. Treat yourself with love, and you will find yourself in a zone of pure happiness.

5. Be competent: The greatest joy one gets is out of his own competence and accomplishments. Competent people have higher self esteem and self worth. They consider themselves capable of adding value and that increases their happiness quotient. Be competent in your field of endeavor.

6. Have the attitude of gratitude: Gratefulness is the key to greatness. It puts you in a state of acceptance and tolerance. You can’t be grateful and not be happy. Gratitude is the most gracious path to happiness. Be grateful for all that you have, and when you are grateful for that, you will never be in a position of lack.

7. Set a good example: The highest form of living is by setting a good example. No matter who you are, how small or big, there is always someone watching you and emulating you. And if you have children, then the responsibility of setting a good example is far greater. When you direct your life consciously towards setting a good example, you can never go wrong. Life is beautiful and the keys to happiness are simple. Infact, unhappiness is a clue that we have deviated from fairness, honesty and compromised on our integrity. The slightest pinch of negativity should direct us towards the simple rules of being happy.

Aurangabad -> Daulatabad -> Ellora Caves

Today, I had been to the famous Cave Temples at Ellora, which has some of the magnificient rock cut temples of the world for which India should be Proud.
The trip was really a memorable one... Of the 34 caves, I could manage to visit hardly 18 of them...

On the way, I got a glimps of the famous fort @ Daulatabad, which was once the capital of India for 2yrs during the Tuglak Dynasty.

CORPORATE

Yesterday after a long time, I stayed tune in TV @ Zoom Theatres to watch Madhur Bhandarkar’s movie “CORPORATE”. The film really kept me glued to the silver screen for about 3hrs at-stretch, and I Njoyed it very much!.

Honestly, I have not seen any of the previous movies directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. This film infact was released in box-office 2 years before, but I did not hear about it until last week, when I read an article in the newspaper about Madhur’s plans to start the sequel to Corporate-II as his next BIG project. It read, Corporate-II will be again stared by Bipasha Basu, were she would be taking off from the original Corporate, seeking revenge on all the people who have wronged her in life.

So whoever not seen the film, I would suggest to watch them next time when some other TV channel should hook it soon. Else do hire a DVD and watch them before release of the 2nd part of the film. Its a must watch for everyone to understand the corporate lifestyle.

The film ‘Corporate’ reveals the dark and ugly secrets of the corporate world, where money hungry businessman join hand with power hungry politician. It shows a warfare between 2 giant industrialists for business, with ruthless business tactics in which human life seems no value. Relations are measured on their return value like any investment.

The movie has good grip and all actors performs their part well. Bipasha had done her job with style and grace as a neatly dressed corporate women.

A stranger was seated next to a little girl on the airplane when the stranger turned to her and said, 'Let's talk. I've heard that flightsgo quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.'

Review on Dasavatharam!

Yesterday I watched the much awaited kamal movie 'Dasavatharam'. This is how one could narrate the 3 hour story in brief:

Kamal, the 12th century Vaishnavite, gets tied to his Vishnu idol, and is thrown into the Bay of Bengal. Back to Century 21. Kamal, the scientist, is working on a bio-weapon. Kamal, the terrorist, is after it. It lands up with Kamal, the grandmother. The president of the United States, Kamal the George Bush, is worried. Kamal, the Japanese judo expert, pushes a few wannabes around. Kamal, the social worker, fights against mud mafia. Kamal, the erratic cop sleepwalks in absolute bliss! Kamal, the Bhangra pop star, spits blood. Kamal, the tall guy, talks comedy. In the end, Kamal, the terrorist, catches up with Kamal, the scientist, and snatches the bio-weapon. Kamal, the Judo expert, lands in time to deliver a few ‘Matrix’ian kicks. “Remember Hiroshima”, the American terrorist tells him. “Remember Pearl Harbour” is the retort. Nothing meaningful comes out of the slugfest and Kamal, the cop, flies down in a copter, and fires at Kamal, the terrorist, who stubbornly chews the bio-weapon tab and ends up on the FX guy’s table. Meanwhile, the Bay of Bengal decides to throw in a Tsunami and it is a huge washout, by all means.

If you have managed to survive the above passage, you can definitely survive ‘Dasavatharam’.

"O Goddess Saraswathi; salutations to you, the giver of boons, the one who fulfills desires. I shall begin my studies. May there always be accomplishment for me".

This prayer is chanted so that all learning resolves in knowledge alone. Knowledge is a fundamental right of human life and it provides nourishment and discipline to the human intellect. In the Vedic culture, study is ordained as one's duty.

The word "Vidyarambam" originates from Sanskrit language and it carries the meaning "the beginning of literacy" or "acquiring of knowledge". In Malayalam it is known as "Ezhuthinu Iruthu”.

In general, on the tenth day of Navarathri, on the Vijayadashami day, after an elaborate puja to Goddess Saraswathi, the books which have been kept covered in a pink or red silk cloth on a peetam, on the evening of the Ashtami day, are removed from the pedestal, and the Puja is broken which marks the beginning of learning for children.

At the auspicious moment, the eldest male member of the family keeps his son or grand son or daughter or grand daughter on his lap, and initiates them into the world of learning and acquiring of knowledge.

Initiation into this wonderful world of learning usually begins with the writing of the mantra "Om Hari Sri Ganapataye Namah" on the tongue of the child with a golden ring. Hari refers to the Lord, and Sri, to prosperity. This mantra is then written on a silver tray of rice grains with the right index finger of the child, held firmly by the elder. The ceremony of Vidyarambam underlines the power of knowledge. Children in the age group 3-5 are made to participate in the ceremony.

The symbolism behind this Vidyarambam ceremony is: "Writing on grains denotes the acquisition of knowledge, which leads to prosperity. Writing on the tongue with gold invokes the grace of the Goddess of Learning, by which one attains the wealth of true knowledge". The Vijayadasami day signifies the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone

It’s always hard to step out of your comfort zone, but when you do get to step out of it, you definitely improve yourself! The key there is to expand your comfort zone! We all fear different things, and fear is one of the strongest human emotion! But when we overcome those fears, well our comfort zone gets bigger and expands, thus increasing our self-confidence and self-esteem! Which is always good!

Conquering your fears and expanding your comfort zone doesn’t mean jumping in and making blind decisions! To expand your comfort zone you have to take calculated risks, stop procrastinating, and it’ll expand! And as it expands, you will most probably feel better, and get more things done in less time!

So how do we do this? Well here are a couple of tips you can use that may be helpful:

• When you have something to do, do it, even if you’re not sure what will come out of it, for example, if you have a tough phone call to make, well do it, you’ll feel better after the phone call than before.
• Be honest and sincere when you talk to someone! Make sure the other person understands your points and views. And even if the other person doesn’t agree, it’s fine! You have to stand up for what you believe in, and you cannot make everybody agree and like it!
• Do things you don’t do really often, or haven’t done before! You want to gain more knowledge and more experience, so get involved, take whatever courses, hang out with people you respect and that have interesting conversations.
• Remember that if you had bad experiences in the past, chances are the same thing won’t happen again, but you won’t know if you don’t try it again! Don’t let your fears control you!

Lessons on Life:

There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away.

The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the autumn.

When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen.

The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted.

The second son said no it was covered with green buds and full of promise.

The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.

The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.

The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but only one season in the tree's life

He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.

If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your autumn.

Moral lessons:

Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest.

Don't judge life by one difficult season. Persevere through the difficult patches and better times are sure to come some time or later

There are relationships apart from BF/GF, marriage,siblings,friendship that can be very emotional and true which is beyond the understanding of many people.
